Don Ford

Donald R. Ford, 85, of Dayton, Iowa, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on Thursday, October 26, 2017, at Trinity Regional Medical Center in Fort Dodge.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m., Thursday, November 2, 2017, at the McGuire Bend United Brethren Church, rural Dayton. Pastor Richard Laird will officiate. Visitation will be Wednesday, from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m., at Carson – Stapp Funeral Home in Dayton. Burial will be in the McGuire Bend Cemetery. Donald Richard Ford was born on November 30, 1931, in Promise City, Iowa. He stayed on the farm with his grandparents until he was six years old, and later moved up to the Lehigh area. He attended Lehigh Schools and graduated in 1950.

Don served in the United States Army from 1950 to 1954, where he spent most of his time in Korea. He was honorably discharged in 1954 as a Sergeant 1st Class.

After Don returned home to Lehigh, he worked for Tony Anthony at the oil station, did carpentry work for Marion Dosland, and also worked at Land O' Lakes Feed Company for over 30 years, retiring in 1994. He also lived on a farm and raised livestock.

In 1956, Don was united in marriage to Janice Richey. They lived in the Dayton area all their lives together. To this union they were blessed with four children, Kathy, Jeff, Becky, and Mark.

Don was a long time member of the McGuire Bend United Brethren Church outside of Dayton.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Janice, children: Kathy (Jim) Hay of Harcourt, Jeff Ford of Churdan, Becky (Gary) Zerwas of Dayton, and Mark Ford of Dayton; many grandchildren and great-grandchilren; a sister, Beverly Long of Lehigh; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Don was preceded in death by his parents, Maud and Bill Ford, grandson, Casey Ford, grandparents, Carmie and Richard Cox and Elmer and Ruth Ford.
