Raymond L. Henriksen, 97, of Ogden, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, May 4, 2019, at Westhaven Community in Boone.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, May 8, 2019 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at the Community United Methodist Church in Ogden. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 9, 2019, at the Community United Methodist Church in Ogden with Rev. Evelyn Lewiston officiating. Burial to follow at Glenwood Cemetery in Ogden with graveside military rites conducted by the Boone Veterans Council.
Raymond LaVerne Henriksen was born on September 18, 1921, in Eagle, Nebraska, the son of Sherman and Aletha (Standley) Henriksen.
Ray graduated from Eagle High School in 1938. He enlisted in the United States Army Air Corp and served his country during WWII as an airplane mechanic and a B29 flight engineer. He was honorably discharged in February 1946 with the rank of First Lieutenant.
On July 4, 1948, Ray was united in marriage to Mildred Everson in Lancaster County, Nebraska. Later that year, Ray began his career as a welder with Northern Natural Gas Company. He retired as Ogden District Manager in 1984 after 36 years of service. He continued working for Northern as a pipeline inspector and welding instructor until 1998.
Ray was a member of the Community United Methodist Church and the Edward J. Maas American Legion Post #55 of Ogden.
In his early years, Ray built and drove micro-midget race cars. Later, his hobbies included golfing, crossword puzzles and playing cards. Ray was an avid Nebraska Cornhusker fan. He also was known for his story telling.
Survivors include his wife of 70 years, Mildred Henriksen of Ogden; four sons, Michael (Darcy) Henriksen of Watertown, WI., David (Susan) Henriksen of Overland Park, KS., Tom (Beth) Henriksen of Ames, IA., John (Robin) Henriksen of Salem, IA; his daughter, Sally (Chuck) Good of Ogden, IA; 20 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Alan Henriksen and two sisters, Lucile Denning and Lois Anderson.
In addition to his parents, Ray was preceded in death by his brother, Ralph Henriksen and grandson, Tyler Henriksen.
