Alberta Blood, 80, of Ogden, Iowa, went home peacefully into the arms of Jesus on Monday, January 21, 2013, at the Boone County Hospital.
Funeral services will be held 10:00, Saturday, January 26, 2013, at the Community United Methodist Church in Ogden. Rev. Kent Wallace will officiate. Burial will be in the Paton Cemetery. Alberta Lee Brower was born on August 10, 1932, in Abesville, Missouri, the daughter of John and Reba (Hammond) Brower. Alberta attended schools in Linden, Iowa, where she was a star basketball forward for the Linden Cougars. She graduated with the Linden Consolidated High School class of 1951 as the class Valedictorian.
Alberta was married and raised her first five children on a farm near Linden.
She later met and married the love of her life Allan Blood, on August 7, 1970, in Omaha, Nebraska. To this union three children were born.
Alberta was a homemaker and most of all enjoyed her role as mother to her eight children. She was a poet, and enjoyed craft club, gardening, genealogy, and restoring homes.
Survivors include her husband of 42 years, Allan Blood of Ogden, Iowa; eight children, Rebecca (Kent) Wallace of Rice Lake, Wisconsin, Benjamin (Lianne) Westcot of Solon, Iowa, Melinda (Jim) Cisco of Webster City, Iowa, Jonathan Westcot D.O. of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Jennifer (John) Wheeler of Ogden, Iowa, Valerie Emswiler of Sioux City, Iowa, Kimberly (David) McDonald of Ankeny, Iowa, and Tamara (D.J.) DeBoef of Ankeny, Iowa; 18 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Eugene Brower; and her sister, Abigail Daniel.
Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
