Alfred C. Huisinga, 94, of Webster City, Iowa, passed away early Tuesday morning, May 2, 2017, at the Paula J. Baber Hospice Home in Fort Dodge.
Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m., Friday, May 5, 2017, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Webster City. Rev. Dr. Mike Kroona will officiate. Burial will follow at Graceland Cemetery in Webster City. Military Graveside Rites will be conducted by the Webster City American Legion Post #191. Alfred Charles Huisinga was born on January 7, 1923, in Kamrar, Iowa, the son of Jacob and Tillie Huisinga.
Al was a graduate of the Blairsburg High School and went on to attend Officer's School at the University of Utah. During this time he was drafted into the United States Army, serving during WWII in the European Theatre. He served his Country honorably from April of 1943, until his discharge in February of 1946, and was awarded two Bronze Stars.
On October 28, 1951, Alfred was united in marriage to Alice Leona Smedley at the Church of Christ in Clarion. The couple lived on a farm northeast of Kamrar for a short time. In 1954, they established their home in Webster City. Al co-owned and operated Huisinga & Peterson Construction Company for 22 years, retiring in 1979. Al and Alice were also active in the daily operations of their rental properties, Huisinga Apartments in Webster City. Alice passed away on October 1, 2007.
Al was a longtime member of Asbury United Methodist Church in Webster City and the American Legion Post #191. He enjoyed woodworking and carpentry projects, camping, traveling with Alice in their motor home, and spending time on the farm.
Survivors include three daughters, Kathy (formerly Lund) and her husband, (Fran) Wilcox of Marshalltown, Iowa, Belinda (Bob) Heinen of Webster City, Iowa, and Sandy (Tim) Jondal of Webster City, Iowa; grandchildren, Michelle (Rob) Stapp, Beth (Adrian) Puente, David (Lisa) Ely, Scot (April) Ely, and Mitch (Mikayla) Jondal, Mike (Heidi Milligan) Jondal, and Cody (Raechel) Jondal; great-grandchildren, Jesse and Nathan Ely, Logan and Cael Stapp, Ava and Evan Ely, Cayden Puente, and Nova Jondal; several step-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and numerous other relatives and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, Alice Huisinga, siblings, Joe, Herman, Gerhard, Bernard, Bertha, Emery, Gertie, Willie and Henry Huisinga, and son-in-law, Randy Ely.
Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
