Allan Ray Blood, 70, of Ogden, Iowa, went home peacefully into the arms of Jesus on Saturday, May 15, 2021, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa.
A visitation for Allan will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, May 20, 2021 at Carson-Stapp Funeral Home in Ogden, Iowa. A graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, May 21, 2021 at the Paton Cemetery in Paton, Iowa. Dustin DeBoef will officiate. Graveside Military Rites will be accorded by the Boone Veterans Council.
Allan Ray Blood, son of Robert and Velma (Tourte) Blood, was born on August 1, 1950 in Greene County, Iowa. He grew up on the family farm near Dana along with his older brother Gary. Allan graduated from East Greene High School in 1968. Following graduation, Allan entered the Iowa Air National Guard and Air Force Reserve.
On August 7, 1970, Allan married Alberta Lee Brower in Omaha, Nebraska. To this union three daughters were born, Valerie, Kimberly and Tamara. While serving in the Iowa Air National Guard and Air Force Reserve, Allan, in 1970, began his career with the Iowa State Conservation Commission, Department of Natural Resources-Saylorville Wildlife Unit, stationed at Ledges State Park, Boone, Ia. Allan was honorably discharged from the Air Guard after 6 years of service, in 1974. In 2012, Allan retired from the DNR with over 42 years of service.
Allan’s hobbies included his passion for music which started in high school where he played the bass and drums, along with vocals with his group, the Azorbs. He also played in several bands after high school. He enjoyed westerns, loved to build houses and fix things, work on his children’s cars, and travel with his family. Above all, he loved being his generous self, spending time with his girls, and his grandchildren, and being a devoted husband to Alberta, the love of his life.
Survivors include his children, Valerie Emswiler of West Des Moines, Iowa, Kimberly McDonald of Des Moines, Iowa, and Tamara (D.J.) DeBoef of Ankeny, Iowa; 8 grandchildren, Brittany Kersey, Reno Kersey, Alexandra Emswiler, Colton Emswiler, Grace DeBoef, Savannah DeBoef, Ellie DeBoef, and Alexa DeBoef; stepchildren, Rebecca (Kent) Wallace, Benjamin (Lianne) Westcot, Jonathan Westcot D.O., Jennifer (John) Wheeler, and step son-in-law, Jim Cisco; 8 step grandchildren and 16 step great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Robert and Velma, Allan was also preceded in death by his loving wife, Alberta, his brother, Gary Blood, and stepdaughter, Melinda Cisco.
Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
