Anita Schrum

L. Anita Schrum, 97, of Jefferson, Iowa, and formerly of Grand Junction, Iowa passed away on Wednesday, November 20, 2013, at Greene County Medical Center in Jefferson.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m., Saturday, November 23, 2013, at Carson – Stapp Funeral Home in Ogden with Pastor Wade Brandt officiating. Burial will be at Glenwood Cemetery in Ogden. L. Anita Warner was born on October 9, 1916, in Ogden, Iowa, the son of Roland and Bertha (Junck) Warner. Anita completed grades 1-8 in a one room schoolhouse in Yell Township and later attended Ogden High School.

On October 14, 1932, Anita was united in marriage to Peter Schrum. The couple farmed in the Beaver and Dana area for 48 years. When Peter and Anita retired in 1982, they moved from the farm east of Dana to Grand Junction. After Peter passed away in 2001, Anita moved to Ogden until 2009, then moved to The Gardens in Jefferson.

Anita was a member of Zion Lutheran Church where she was confirmed in 1931, and a former member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Dana. Anita was known for her flower and vegetable gardens which provided both lovely decorations and many delicious meals. She enjoyed cooking and baking; her angel food cakes were always the celebratory center of her grandchildren's birthdays.

Among the survivors are five sons and one daughter, John (Marilyn) Schrum of Cedar Falls, Iowa, Hazel (Schrum) Johnson of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Frank (Susan) Versal of San Jose, California, Jerry (Gayle) Schrum of Camarillo, California, Robert (Heyde) Schrum of Fayetteville, Arkansas and Stephen (Carol) Schrum of Grand Junction, Iowa; 14 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren and a step-sister, Sandra Warner.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Peter Schrum on July 17, 2001; infant daughter, Mary Anita; grandson, David Johnson and her brother, Earl Warner.
