Arlen O. Zunkel, 80, of Ogden, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, January 4, 2014, at Boone County Hospital.
Arlen's wishes were to be cremated. A memorial service will be held 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, February 12, 2014, at the Community United Methodist Church in Ogden. Rev. Gary Hoyt will offciate. Arlen Orville Zunkel was born on July 19, 1933, in Ogden, Iowa, the son of Orville and Marian (Whitney) Zunkel. He graduated with the Ogden High School class of 1951. Arlen ran a DX Station in Ogden, and in 1953 joined the United States Army during the Korean War and served his country mostly in Japan.
Arlen married Elnora Wolf in May of 1989, and made their home in Ogden. He retired from John Deere Ankeny Works in 1998. He enjoyed fishing and NASCAR races and was an avid fan of Mark Martin. Arlen and Elnora enjoyed traveling to visit Dawnie and family in Wyoming and seeing the country. Arlen was a member of the Community United Methodist Church in Ogden.
Arlen was preceded in death by his wife, Elnora, and his parents.
He leaves to mourn his passing step daughter, Dawnie (Tim) Hendryx of Wyoming; step son, Robert Pohlner of Ogden, Iowa; his brother, Roger (Jo) Zunkel of Ogden, Iowa; grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
