Barbara J. Martinez

Barbara J. Martinez, 66, of Des Moines, Iowa, and formerly of Ogden, died Sunday, January 17, 2010, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, January 20, 2010, at Carson - Stapp Funeral Home in Ogden. Rev. Stephen Ude will officiate. Burial will be at Linwood Park Cemetery in Boone. Visitation will also be Wednesday, from 8:30 a.m. until the time of services at the funeral home.

Barbara Jean Lester was born on December 21, 1943, in Boone, Iowa, the daughter of Alvis and Margaret (Sparks) Lester. She was a graduate of the Ogden High School and went on to attend the Iowa School of Beauty in Des Moines. In October of 1963, Barb was united in marriage to Arthur Martinez in Des Moines, Iowa. To this union two children were born: Tina and Adam. Barb and Arthur later divorced.

Barb enjoyed attending Church. She also loved painting and spending time with family and friends.

Survivors include her daughter, Tina (Roy) Worthington of Des Moines, Iowa; son, Adam Martinez of Des Moines, Iowa; three grandchildren, Ryan Holloway, Samantha Holloway, and Jacob Worthington; her mother, Erma Lester of Ogden, Iowa; and her aunt, Carol Garlock of Des Moines, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her parents.
