Barbara Kay May

Barb May, 85, of Dayton, Iowa passed away on Thursday, June 8, 2023, at Grandview Health Care Center in Dayton.

A Celebration of Life will be held from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m., on Saturday, June 17, 2023, at Carson-Stapp Funeral Home in Dayton. A graveside service will follow at West Lawn Cemetery in Lehigh. Barbara Kay Berg was born on December 30, 1937, in Two Harbors, Minnesota, the daughter of Orville and Effie (Anderson) Berg. The family later moved to Des Moines, Iowa, where Barb grew up and received her education.

Barb married Fred Stoneburner on August 25, 1957, and they later divorced. They were blessed with one son, Tom Stoneburner.

She worked for many years at the DeKalb Research Farm in Dayton until retiring.

On July 18, 1977, Barb was united in marriage to Fred May. The couple made their home in Dayton. Fred passed away in 1998.

Barb enjoyed traveling, spending time with her grandchildren, and coffee with friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Fred May, step-daughter, Debbie Gilliland, step-sons, Dwight Andrews, and Jeff Andrews, one sister, Donna Berg, two brothers, Ardell Berg, and David Berg, and her grandson, Alex Stoneburner.

Survivors include her son, Tom (Jeanne) Stoneburner of Dayton, IA; three step-children, Laurel (Ken) Schafer of Garland, TX, Bart (Ronda) May of Lincoln, NE, and Lorie (Jim) Robinson of Altedena, CA; three grandchildren, Jeremy (Amanda) Dodson, Kaci (Ashley) Mahannah, and Shane (Kaeleen) Stoneburner; four great-grandchildren, Aspen, Caliber, Ella, and Easton; two brothers, Dennis Berg of Omaha, NE, and Darrell (Linda) Berg of Des Moines, IA; and many nieces and nephews.
