Betty Watson, 85, of Boone, passed away on Sunday, February 26, 2017, at the Boone County Hospital.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Thursday, March 2, 2017, at Augustana Lutheran Church in Boone, Iowa. Pastor Dan Solomon will officiate. Burial will be at Glenwood Cemetery in Ogden. Betty Jean Hendershott was born on March 19, 1931, in Ogden, Iowa, the daughter of Clyde and Bertha (Anderson) Hendershott. She was baptized at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Ogden.
Betty attended country school south of Ogden, graduated with the Pilot Mound High School class of 1950, and went on to attend D.M.A.C.C.
On April 1, 1952, Betty was united in marriage to Donald Watson. To this union four children were born: Don Jr., Jay, Kristy, and Vicki. Betty and Don later divorced.
Betty worked in various positions over the years and was fond of her time as a cook at Ogden Public Schools. She retired from Woodward State Hospital in 1993, where she had worked as a secretary for several years.
Betty was a member of Augustana Lutheran Church in Boone where she enjoyed helping with the Clothes Closet and was active in many other church activities. She was a former member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Ogden where she taught Sunday school.
Survivors include four children, Don Jr. Watson of Boone, Iowa, Jay Watson of Boone, Iowa, Kristy Watson (Mickey Lange) of Chicago, Illinois, and Vicki Conley of Boone, Iowa; four grandchildren, Jessica (Peter) Hogan, Jacob Watson (Keisha Nguyen), Amanda Conley, and Whitney Conley (Joel Cox); five great grandchildren, Joshua, William, Annabelle, Zephaniah, and Isaiah; one sister, Claryce "Janice" Tilley; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and five sibling and their spouses, Caroline (Gus) Gliem, Evelyn (Dale) Price, and Lois (Marion "Carp) Carpenter, Francis Hendershott and Merrill (Bev) Hendershott.
