Brian Sparks

Brian Sparks, 61, of Ames, Iowa, passed away on Friday, June 20, 2014, at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames, Iowa.

Brian's wishes were to be cremated. Memorial services will be held 10:30 a.m., Thursday, June 26, 2014, at the Beaver Church of the Brethren in Beaver, Iowa with Rev. Dr. Katharine Yarnell officiating. Burial will be in Beaver Cemetery in Beaver at a later date. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church. Brian Eldon Sparks was born July 26, 1952 in Jefferson, Iowa, the son of Archie and Yvonne (Murray) Sparks. He graduated with the Ogden High School class of 1970. After high school he attended DMACC in Boone for 2 years.

On August 9th, 1986, Brian was united in marriage to Colleen Pepper at the Iowa Arboretum.

Brian worked for the Iowa Arboretum for 23 years as a Horticulturist, then for 10 years as a groundskeeper for Iowa State University.

Brian was a member of the Methodist Church in Beaver and the Iowa Nut Growers. He enjoyed music, trees, gardening and loved the outdoors and nature. Brian carved wooden canes in his free time.

Brian is survived by his wife, Colleen of Ames; two sons; John (Tena) Swanson of Bondurant, and Judd (Spring) Bork of Boone; two grandchildren, Megan Ellis and Elizabeth Bork; one great grandchild, Anabella Griesbach; one brother, Alan (Barb) Sparks of Boone and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
