Bruce E. Swanson, 73, of Dayton, Iowa, passed away at his home on Tuesday, May 7, 2024, surrounded by family.
A celebration of life visitation will be held Friday, May 10, 2024, from 4-7 p.m., at Carson ~ Stapp Funeral Home in Dayton. Family and close friends are welcome to attend the burial at Dayton Cemetery at 2:00 p.m., on Saturday, May 18, 2024, with Steve Satre officiating. Bruce Edward Swanson was born on January 28, 1951, in Dayton, Iowa, the son of Everett and Pauline (Cling) Swanson. He graduated with the Dayton High School class of 1969, and furthered his education at Iowa Central Community College in Fort Dodge from 1972-1974, studying automotive mechanics.
In 1984, Bruce was united in marriage to Gina Roe. They were blessed with one son, Tanner (deceased), and two daughters, Paige and Madeline.
While living in Garden City, Kansas, Bruce was employed by Glenn Construction of Fort Dodge 1970–1972. He worked as a mechanic for Ivan Skoglund’s Conoco Station in Dayton, and leased the station from Ivan from 1977-1991, Bruce’s Conoco. He later owned & operated Swanson Sanitation from October of 1991, until retiring in October of 2012.
Bruce enjoyed cars – especially cruising in his 69’ el Camino, spending time with family and friends, helping others, card games, and slow pitch softball. He served on the Dayton Volunteer Fire Department for 28 years, serving as Chief for several years, and also belonged to the Dayton Jaycee’s. Most of all Bruce loved spending time with Gina. They would have celebrated their 40th anniversary this year, and have been together for 45 years.
He is preceded in death by his parents, son, Tanner Swanson, brother, Paul Swanson, and brother-in-law, Larry Greenfield.
Survivors include his wife, Gina Swanson of Dayton, IA; two daughters, Paige (Steven) Workman of Clare, IA, and Madeline (Tyler) Price of Boone, IA; two grandchildren, Elora Paige and Henry Edward Workman; his sister, Sharon Greenfield of Burnside, IA; sister-in-law, Betty Swanson of Tucson, AZ; niece, Stacie Flagle, and nephews, Joshua Greenfield, Jeffrey Swanson, and Michael Swanson.
Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
