Carl A. Larson, 88, of Pilot Mound, Iowa, passed away on Monday, October 1, 2012, at the Boone County Hospital in Boone, Iowa.

Funeral services will be held 10:30, Friday, October 5, 2012, at Carson - Stapp Funeral Home. Steve Satre will officiate. Burial will be at Pilot Mound Cemetery in Pilot Mound. Military Graveside Rites will be conducted by the Boone Veteran's Council. Visitation will be Thursday, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., at Carson - Stapp Funeral Home in Ogden.

Carl A. Larson was born on September 1, 1924, in the Ogden Iowa Hospital, the son of Erick D. & Hulda S. (Safestrom) Larson.

On January 7, 1944, Carl was united in marriage to Marjorie Sparks in Fort Dodge. They had three children. He served in the US Navy from May 1944 to February 1946 in the Philippines area on the USS Stanley, a destroyer. It was hit by kamikazes planes. He worked as a hired hand for seven years for Clarence Lundberg. The couple lived and farmed in Boxholm before moving to their farm west of Pilot Mound in February of 1953. Along with crops, he had a dairy herd & raised laying chickens. He drove Grand Community School bus for 17 years. He worked for ASCS for 30 years. He dug graves by hand at Pilot Mound Cemetery. He was always ready to lend a helping hand and did odd jobs for everyone in town. Carl was a hard worker and ready to help everyone out. He enjoyed fishing, talking, going for coffee, traveling and spending time with his family.

Carl was a member of the Groom-Kimsey American Legion post #16 and was a past officer at the local, county & state level. He was the fire chief in Pilot Mound for 10 years and served on the Fire Board. He was Town Marshall "Wyatt Earp" for Pilot Mound in the 60's. Carl was a 4-H leader & served on the Boone County Extension Council. He belonged to the Odd Fellows, Isaac Walton League, Boone & Scenic Valley Railroad (charter member). 40 & 8 Chef-De-Gar. Carl was a member of the United Methodist Church, serving on its board.

Among the survivors are his son, Lance L. Larson of Boone, Iowa; two daughters, Vickie S. (Virgil) Tungesvik of Colo, Iowa and Sheryl L. Disbrowe of Carlisle, Iowa; six grandchildren, Brian Larson, Katie Larson, Scott (Danelle) Tungesvik, Kelly (Valerij) Petrulevich, Matthew (Bobbi) Disbrowe & Wendy Disbrowe; six great-grandsons & one great granddaughter. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, three sisters & one brother; and two grandsons, Mark and Adam.
