Carol A. Larson

Carol A. Larson, 80, a lifelong resident of Stratford, Iowa, passed away on Monday, December 14, 2020 at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames, Iowa.

A private graveside service for Carol will be held at Hardin Township Cemetery, rural Stratford, Iowa. A come and go visitation with casket and viewing will be held Thursday, December 17, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.at the family farm home, 3219 370th Street, Stratford, Iowa, 50249. Carol A Sackrison, the daughter of Clarence and Agnes (Dahlien) Sackrison was born on January 1, 1940, in Boone, Iowa. She graduated from Stratford High School class of 1958. Carol attended Iowa State Teacher’s College (UNI) where she earned her teaching degree. Carol taught Kindergarten for over 28 years, many of those at the Stratford Community School. Carol won the Golden Apple Award, nominated by her students for excellence in education. Many will remember painting her car during their year in Kindergarten.

On June 6, 1960 Carol was united in marriage to Wayne Larson at the Stratford Lutheran Church. The couple eventually made their home on Carol’s family farm. Carol restored the original farm house built in 1903, and began to offer it as a guest house to visitors in the area during the months of May to October.

Carol enjoyed gardening, groundskeeping and birdwatching on the family farm. She loved telling the history of the farm and the Bed and Breakfast. She was extremely proud of her Swedish ancestry and was a recipient of the Award of Merit from the Swedish Council of America. Carol volunteered in many capacities in the Stratford Community, serving on the Stratford Lutheran Church council, Care Center Advocacy, Athens Woods Board, Greater Swede Bend Board, the Food Pantry, Congregate Meals and never hesitated to volunteer cookies or a helping hand when asked.

Carol was preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include her loving husband of 60 years, Wayne Larson of Stratford; two sons, Jay Larson of Stratford, IA, and Brad Larson of Iowa Falls, IA; one granddaughter, Nevada Larson also of Iowa Falls, IA; and her brother Larry (Margaret) Sackrison of Long Beach, California.

In lieu of flowers, Carol requests those wanting to remember her do so by doing a kind deed or saying an encouraging word to someone in need. Memorials may be left in memory of Carol to either the Stratford Lutheran Church, the Swedish Immigrant Museum, or a charity of your choice.
