Charlene Ulrick, 88, of Boxholm, Iowa died Monday, July 30th, 2018, at Mercy Hospice in Johnston, Iowa.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, August 4, 2018, at the United Methodist Church in Boxholm. Pastor Philip Berger will officiate. Burial will be at Renner Cemetery, southwest of Boxholm. Charlene Ulrick was born May 16, 1930, in Boone County, just south of Beaver, Iowa. She was the daughter of Roy and Kittie Barker Shafer. She went to Beaver Country School and later her family moved southwest of Boxholm. She attended Boxholm School.
Charlene was united in marriage to Cleo "Bill" Ulrick on July 17, 1948, at the Shafer farm home southwest of Boxholm. The couple farmed northwest of Boxholm for 15 years and then moved to the Shafer farm in 1963. They raised two daughters, Vickie and Cleanne. Charlene helped with harvest and tillage and loved entertaining friends and family in her home. She enjoyed baking cinnamon rolls, breads and desserts. She also loved working in her garden. She enjoyed knitting and crocheting. She and her husband enjoyed going to casinos. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was an active member in her church circle and dinners at the Boxholm United Methodist Church.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Roy & Kittie Shafer, her husband, Cleo "Bill" Ulrick who died November 6th, 2006, five brothers, Wayne, Loren, Allen, Jim, & Bob Shafer, and three sisters, Bernice Hein, Geraldine Strand, and Maxine Lehman.
Survivors include her two daughters, Vickie & her husband, Roger West of Clive, and Cleanne & her husband, Jim Lindholm, of Ogden; three grandchildren, Chad & his wife Ann West of Ogden, Brent West of Urbandale, and Andy & his wife, Maghen Lindholm of Phoenix, AZ; four great grandchildren, Luke West, Jake West, Addison "Addy" Lindholm, and Anderson James "AJ" Lindholm; one sister, Judy Hale of Golden Valley, AZ; and many nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
