Charles R. Manguson

Charles R. Manguson, 91, of Dayton, Iowa, died Saturday, November 10, 2012, at the Paula J. Baber Hospice Home in Fort Dodge.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, November 14, 2012, at the United Methodist Church in Dayton. Rev. Dr. Karen Young will officiate. Burial will be in the Dayton Cemetery with Military Graveside Rites conducted by the Peterson American Legion Post #323. Visitation will be Tuesday, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., at Carson-Stapp Funeral Home in Dayton.

Charles Robert Manguson was born on April 26, 1921, in Dayton, Iowa, the son of Ralph and Linnea (Sandholm) Manguson. He graduated with the Dayton High School class of 1940. Charles served his country in the United States Army during WWII and achieved the rank of Sergeant. On February 17, 1951, Charles was united in marriage to Elizabeth A. Reed at the Congregational Church in Fort Dodge. To this union three children were born: Roberta, Charlene, and Gail. Charles and Betty farmed southwest of Dayton for many years. In 1986, Charlie retired from farming and the couple moved into Dayton. Betty passed away on October 11, 2011.

Charles was a longtime member of the United Methodist Church in Dayton where he served on the Church Board for many years. He also served two terms on the Elevator Board, three years on the Webster County Extension Council, was a member and Past President of the Dayton Lion's Club, and belonged to the Peterson American Legion Post #323 where he served as the Sergeant at Arms for 50+ years.

Survivors include three daughters, Roberta (John) Nigro of Des Moines, Iowa, Charlene (Pat) Kelley of Otho, Iowa, and Gail (Dave) Lundquist of Dayton, Iowa; five grandchildren, Charles (Carla), Kyndra, and Matt Lundquist, and Emma and Ada Kelley; a great granddaughter, Addison Lundquist; four step grandchildren, John Nigro Jr., Donald (Clarissa) Nigro, Pete (Teresa) Nigro, and Michelle (Matt) Carson; eight step great grandchildren, John Nigro III, Carmine Nigro, Taylor, Ariana, and Anthony Nigro, and Nina, Dominic, and Talia Carson; two brothers, Donald Manguson of Des Moines, Iowa, and Ray Manguson of Stuart, Florida; four sisters, Alice (Merlin) Johnson of Omaha, Nebraska, Dorothy Simons of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Helen Martin of Andover, Kansas, and Marjorie (Gordon) Udall of Scottsdale, Arizona; and many nieces and nephews. His parents, wife Betty Manguson, and three brothers, Kenneth, Glenn, and Dwain Manguson, preceded him in death.
