Claire L. Williamson Jr., 76, of Dayton, Iowa, passed away suddenly on Monday, July 11, 2016, in Dayton.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m., Friday, July 15, 2016, at the United Methodist Church in Dayton. Pastor Kay. Christie will officiate. Burial will be in the Dayton Cemetery with Military Graveside Rites conducted by the Peterson American Legion Post #323. Claire Leroy Williamson Jr. was born on May 31, 1940 in Iowa City, Iowa, the son of Claire and Dorothy (Collins) Williamson. He attended Fort Dodge Schools, enlisted in the United States Air Force at the age of 17, and upon his honorable discharge completed his education graduating with the Fort Dodge Senior High School class of 1963.
On November 18, 1967, Claire was united in marriage to Darlene Roberts at Elk Point, South Dakota. Claire worked for the railroad for over 35 years including Chicago Northwestern, Norfolk Southern, and Union Pacific, retiring as a Locomotive Manager in 2001. After retiring the couple moved to Dayton.
Claire belonged to the United Methodist Church in Dayton. He was a member of the Dayton Lions, Dayton Sr. Citizens, American Legion Post #323, served on the Dayton Community Grocery Board, Dayton Rescue Squad, Dayton City Council, the Dayton Parks & Recreation Board for a short time, and was active in many community events. Claire enjoyed traveling with his wife, hunting and fishing with his kids, and showed love and devotion worthy of fireworks every year.
Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Darlene Williamson of Dayton, Iowa; four sons, Steve (Anna) Hughes of Alta, Iowa, Marlin Dwaine Williamson of Cherokee, Iowa, Ron "Chip" Hughes (Brenda Hastings) of Spencer, Iowa, David Hughes of Longmont, Colorado; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mary Lavonne Hansen of Webster City, Iowa, and Bernice Ina Friesth of Sac City, Iowa; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Rolly (Ada Marie) Roberts of Storm Lake, Iowa, Guy Roberts of Unionville, Missouri, Herbert (Carmen) Roberts of Pittsburgh, California, Tina Jones of Orlando, Florida, Luther Roberts of Hopkins, Missouri, and Phyllis (Dennis) Guthrie of Clairemont, Missouri.
His parents, daughter, Dawn Denise Williamson, two sisters, Carol Ann and Barbara Regina Williamson, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Gary Hansen, Gerald Friesth, Clifford Roberts, Clovis Roberts, Raymond Roberts, Doris Roberts, Rea Roberts, and Lenny Roberts preceded him in death.
Memorials may be left to the Dayton Rescue Squad.
