Clare "Spide" Bailey, 73, of Lehigh, Iowa, died Monday, April 20, 2009, at his home.
Spide's body has been cremated. A Memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, April 25, 2009, at Spide's home, 9078 Taylor Rd., Lehigh, Iowa with Pastor Richard Laird officiating. Military Rites will immediately follow the service. Carson - Stapp Funeral Home in Dayton is in charge of arrangements.
Clare Edward Bailey was born on March 12, 1936, in Lehigh, Iowa, the son of Thomas and Clara (Young) Bailey. He received his education in the Lehigh Schools. Spide then enlisted in the United States Navy, serving from June of 1953 until October of 1957. Following his honorable discharge from the Navy, Spide returned to Lehigh where he was employed by Lehigh Sewer Pipe and Tile. He later worked at the American Can Company in Fort Dodge and California until retiring. Spide returned to Lehigh following his retirement.
Survivors include three daughters, Sonya Bailey of Lehigh, Iowa, Starla (Jim) Mullarkey of Fort Myers Beach, Florida, and Pam Smith of Mound City, Missouri; two grandchildren, Bailey Mullarkey and Colton Smith; brother, Vernon, (Joyce) Bailey, of Jonesborough, Tennessee; sister, Verna Housken of Des Moines, Iowa; and four nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Thomas "Buck" Bailey.
Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
