Cleo N. Highland

Cleo N. Highland, 85, of Webster City, Iowa, died surrounded by her family on Sunday, November 16, 2008, at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, November 19, 2008, at Carson - Stapp Funeral Home in Dayton. Pastor Richard Laird will officiate. Visitation will be Tuesday, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., at Carson - Stapp Funeral Home. Following services Cleo's body will be cremated and burial of ashes will be at a later date at Graceland Cemetery in Webster City.

Cleo Nadine Fugate was born on July 22, 1923, in Des Moines, Iowa, the daughter of Harry and Mabel (Blake) Fugate. She graduated with the Kellerton High School class of 1941. Cleo was united in marriage to Ross Wayne Highland on November 29, 1941, in Bethany, Missouri. The couple lived in Kellerton and Eagle Grove, Iowa, following Wayne's career in the restaurant business. In 1958, Wayne and Cleo moved to Fort Dodge where Cleo worked at the Boston Store and later as a bookkeeper at Smithway Motor Express until retiring in 1990. Following retirement, Wayne and Cleo moved to Webster City. Wayne passed away on July 24, 2004. Cleo had been a resident of Southfield Wellness Community in Webster City since December of 2003.

Cleo belonged to the Church of Christ in Webster City. She enjoyed playing cards and Wii with her friends at Southfield Care Center and most of all enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.

Survivors include her daughter, Starla K. (Herb) Herbolsheimer of Burlington, Washington; three sons, Robert W. (Kathie) Highland of Hot Springs Village, Arkansas, Richard E. (Karolin) Highland of Wenatchee, Washington, and Ronald R. Highland of Chicago, Illinois; grandchildren, Lori Wallace, Joni Swedelius, Brett Herbolsheimer, Melissa Anderson, Mindy Jackson, Robert J. Highland, Erik Highland, Justin Highland, Jennifer Highland, and Jason Highland; step grandchildren, Debra Nessa and Robert Stapp; 22 great grandchildren; one great great granddaughter; her sister, Lavita Brooks of Fort Myers, Florida; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Wayne Highland; one brother, Everett "Sonny" Fugate; and two step-grandchildren, Angela Hartnett and Richard Stapp Jr.

Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
