May 3, 1917 — April 2, 2014

Colleen May, 97, Lehigh, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, April 2, 2014, at the Grandview Health Care Center in Dayton.

A memorial service will be held 10:30 a.m., Saturday, April 12, 2014, at the Christian Church in Lehigh. Pastor Richard Laird will officiate. Visitation will be Saturday, from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service at the Church. Burial will be at West Lawn Cemetery in Lehigh. Colleen Isabel Ball was born on May 3, 1917, near Corwith, Iowa, the daughter of Guy and Nellie (Irwin) Ball. She attended schools in rural Webster County and Lehigh Public Schools.

On May 31, 1933, Colleen was united in marriage to George May in Lehigh. She lived most of her life in Lehigh with the exception of 10 years in California in the 1940's. Colleen worked at Goodyear while in California and at Globe Union and Friendship Haven in Fort Dodge. She retired from Friendship Haven in 1979.

Colleen was a member of the Christian Church in Lehigh, as well as the Golden Memories Senior Citizens Club, Birthday Club, and the Friendly Few.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, George May, son, Fred May, grandchildren, Jeffrey Andrews and Debbie Gilliland, four brothers, Raymond, Theodore, Willard, and Merlin Ball, four sisters, Frances Ketchum, Leona Keyser, Catherine Dutcher, and Claudia Reeder, and son-in-law, Larry Phillips.

Among the survivors are her son, Tom (Helen) May of Mountain Home, Arkansas; daughter, Georgia Phillips of Duncombe, Iowa; daughter-in-law, Barb May of Dayton, Iowa; sister-in-law, Maxine Ball of Lincoln, Nebraska; eight grandchildren, and many great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
