Cynthia Sue Wagstaff

Cynthia Wagstaff, 71, of Springville, Utah, passed away on December 11, 2018, at Timpanogas Hospital in Orem, Utah.

Cynthia Sue was born May 15, 1948 in Riceville, Iowa to LaVonne Johnson and LeRoy Anderson. She was joined by a younger sister, Cathy Lynn and a younger brother, Brian LeRoy. When she was 10 years old her father was killed in an automobile accident near Webster City, Iowa. Her mother was left with the three children ages 10, 8 and 6.

Cynthia attended schools in Webster City and graduated from high school in 1966. Following high school, she married Gary Coulson and they lived in Ames, Iowa where he attended Iowa State University. He then went overseas for the Vietnam war. Cynthia cared for their two small children Lisa Jaclyn born in 1969 and Eric Thomas born in 1970. Gary returned from Vietnam in 1971 and in 1972 they were divorced.

Cynthia met Ramon Ostenberg in February of 1972 at their place of employment. He was a widower with two children, Stacy Diane, 14 and Reed Kendall, 12. Ramon was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and referred Cynthia to meet with the missionaries. She was baptized on May 26th; and they were married on June 24. One year later, 1973 they were sealed in the Provo, Utah temple.

A daughter, Rachel Kaye, was born in November 1974. This brought family members up to five, three girls and two boys. They resided in Ogden, Iowa.

Ramon passed away in November 1996 following 12 years of illnesses. They had been married 24-1/2 years.

Cynthia worked as an executive secretary, bookkeeper, receptionist, and society editor of a weekly newspaper and as a graphic designer at a bi-weekly newspaper. She served in the primary as a teacher, chorister, counselor and president; in the young women as a counselor and president. She also had been a Relief Society secretary, counselor, teacher and president; taught Sunday School and served as the Gospel Doctrine teacher. She taught early morning seminary for 9 years; and was a Stake Relief Society President.

Cynthia married Dr. Robert K Wagstaff in the Chicago Temple, September 23, 1997. They served as a mission president in the Philippines Quezon City Mission from July 1998 to July 2001. They also served as Philippines Missionary Training Center president from May 2002 to January 2005. After being released they resided in Springville, Utah where Cynthia was a member of the Kolob 12th ward.

Cynthia is survived by her husband, Dr. Robert K Wagstaff, children, Lisa Lindahl (Randy Knight), Eric Coulson, Rachel Huck (Joe), Stacy Marks (Jay), Reed Ostenberg (Mary Snakenberg), Carolyn Hendry (Brent), Susan Restivo (Jim), Martha Butterfield (Paul), Robert Wagstaff (Eileen), Nathan Wagstaff (Sandra), 26 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, one sister, Cathy Austin (Don), one brother, Brian Anderson, and many nieces & nephews.

Cynthia was preceded in death by her grandparents, parents, husband, Ramon, and one grandson, Joshua Huck.

A celebration of Life will be held 10:00 a.m., Saturday, December 29, 2018, with visitation starting at 9:00 a.m, at Carson ~ Stapp Funeral Home in Ogden. Bishop Bill Byrd will officiate Interment at Glenwood Cemetery in Ogden. www.carsonstappfuneralhome.com
