Daniel “Dan” L. McCarville died in his home on October 9, 2018 in Paton, Iowa. He was 76 years old.
Dan was born on April 23, 1942 in Ft Dodge, Iowa the son of Marie Peterson and Francis McCarville. Dan enlisted in the United States Navy in 1964 and proudly served his country for 27 years. During this time he lived in Yokohama, Japan, Phoenix, Arizona, and Poway, California.
In 1964 he married Gwendolyn Ann Bedford of Harcourt, Iowa. Together they had two children, Joyce Marie McCarville Clark and David Alan McCarville. They later divorced.
Dan married his second wife, Nancy “Ginger” McCarville in 1989. They resided in Poway, California for the 25 years of their marriage. Following Ginger’s death Dan moved home to Iowa.
Dan loved his family, Iowa and all things Navy. He enjoyed frequent visits to casinos and reminiscing with Navy buddies as often as he could.
For the past few years Dan had shared his life with Sharon Frette. “A very lovely lady that he loved very much.”
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Larry McCarville; ex-wife Gwen McCarville and his wife Nancy McCarville.
He is survived by his children, Joyce Clark of Lexington, Virginia; David McCarville and his wife, Jennifer, of San Antonio, Texas; grandchildren, Rachel Clark of Rockville, Maryland; Molly McCarville and Tate McCarville of San Antonio, Texas.
Dan’s life will be celebrated with a graveside service at the Paton Township Cemetery, Paton, Iowa on Monday, October 15, 2018 at 10:30am. Pastor Kay. Christie will officiate. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Peterson American Legion Post #431, Gowrie, Iowa. A reception to follow at Dan’s home in Paton. All are welcome.
