Daniel Clyde Johnson was born on December 12, 1935, in Chicago, Illinois, the son of Henry and Ethel (Stock) Johnson. He was raised on the family farm near Paton and graduated with the Paton High School class of 1954.

On October 18, 1959, Dan was united in marriage to Dixie Lea Hamilton in Paton, Iowa. They were blessed with two daughters, Danette and Danelle.

Following high school Dan worked in road construction before enlisting in the United States Navy. He served his country honorably from 1955 to 1959 during the Korean War. He then worked at Gibbs Cook in Des Moines and Fort Dodge. In the mid 1960’s he served a five year apprenticeship with the I.B.E.W., then began his career as an indoor journeyman electrician for many years until retiring. In March of 2020, Danny was honored as a 55 year member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. He also farmed with his father after moving to Boxholm in 1967, where he raised his family. Dan continued farming after his father passed. Dan was quite proud when the family farm ”Grand View Farm” was awarded the Century Farm award at the Iowa State Fair.

Dan was a member of the United Methodist Church in Boxholm where he often served as an usher. Dan belonged to the Gem Lodge in Paton, and after it disbanded, the Rose Lodge #506 of Gowrie. He supported 4-H, and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, and attending many of their activities. When the girls were still living at home you could find Danny attending horse shows often helping as a gate man or ring-man on summer weekends. Dan was a devoted, primary caregiver of his wife, Dixie until her passing in January of 2012.

Dan was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Dixie Johnson, brother-in-law, Don “Corky” Quinn, and a nephew, Tim Gilley.
