Daniel Kauffman, 90, of Boxholm, Iowa, entered into God's rest on Sunday, July 27, 2014, at Bethany Manor in Story City, Iowa.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m., Saturday, August 2, 2014, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Boxholm, with Rev. Rod Meyer officiating. Burial will follow at Prairie Lawn Cemetery in Boxholm. Daniel Nathan Kauffman was born November 24, 1923. He was the seventh child of nine born to Noah D. and Kate (Egli) Kauffman. Dan grew up in the Rockwell City area and attended the Manson Mennonite Church. He graduated from Rockwell City High School in 1941. After high school, Dan served as a smoke jumper in the Missoula, Mont. area for two years. He attended college in Heston, Kan., before returning home to Rockwell City to farm.
On August 12, 1950, Daniel was united in marriage to Elaine Freeman, and they moved to Boxholm where Dan farmed until he retired.
Dan was active in Trinity Lutheran Church in Boxholm, and served on the Boxholm Coop Board. Dan loved his family and delighted in traveling to visit his brothers and sisters and in retelling old Kauffman family stories. He spent many hours with his grandchildren, which he cherished and adored. Dan enjoyed gardening, woodworking, and doing many handyman projects. He was very proud of his Mennonite heritage and his service with the smoke jumpers.
Dan was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Roy, Joe, and Walt Kauffman, sisters; Marion Jones, Rose Mason, Gertrude Powell, Grace Natchigall, and grandson, Mark Kauffman.
Dan is survived by his wife of 63 years, Elaine Kauffman of Boxholm, Iowa; two sons, Ray (Laurie) Kauffman of Harcourt, Iowa, and Tom (Frances) Kauffman of Boxholm, Iowa; sister, Edith Piper of Iowa City, Iowa; six grandchildren, Matt (Jenny) Kauffman, Mike (Katie) Kauffman, Megan (Jon) Christie, Mallory Kauffman, John Kauffman, and Holly Kauffman; and six great-grandchildren, Joe, Grace, Kennedy, Charlie, Christopher and Chase.
Memorials may be left to Trinity Lutheran Church in Boxholm.
