Daniel Uhl

March 13, 1952 — April 5, 2012

Daniel D. Uhl, 60, of Ogden, Iowa, passed away Thursday afternoon, April 5th, 2012, at the University Of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics in Iowa City.

Daniel's wishes were to be cremated. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 10, 2012, at the Community United Methodist Church in Ogden. Rev. Gary Hoyt will officiate. Visitation will be Tuesday, from 12:00 noon until the time of services at the church. Carson - Stapp Funeral Home in Ogden is in charge of the arrangements.

Dan was born March 13th, 1952, in Sioux City, IA to Darrell and LaVonne Uhl of Mapleton, IA. He spent his early years in Mapleton and graduated from Maple Valley High School in 1970. Dan was the essential jack-of-all-trades, and held jobs in such varied fields as floral arranging, mining, construction, landscaping, sales (he was a born salesman), rehabilitation therapy, bartending, and most recently as a security guard at Ames Lab at Iowa State University.

He was married on May 28th, 1983, in Sioux City to Marcia (ne Bernard) formerly of Jefferson, SD. They made their home together in several cities over the course of their marriage including Sioux City, Boone, New Hampton, Muscatine, and finally back in Ogden for the last six years. Dan raised Marcie's two sons, Bryce and Brett Groth, as his own. He and Marcie also had two children together, a son, Adam, and a daughter, Celine. Dan and Marcie were also pleased to be recently reunited with another son, Ryan Hartmann. Theirs was not the typical family, but love was the thread that tied them together.

Dan's hobbies kept him outdoors most of the time. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and ice fishing, camping, gardening, morel mushroom gathering, and nearly anything that took him outdoors. Dan was enamored with the mysteries of nature and connected with God through his awe.

He also prided himself on a keen eye for "treasures" hunted down in secondhand and consignment shops. He never turned down a chance to go "goodyin'".

Survivors include his wife, Marcie; sons Ryan (Tammy) of Sioux Falls, SD, Bryce of Whiting, IA, Brett (Mary-Ann) of Nevada, IA, Adam (Emily) of Iowa City, IA; daughter Celine of Ogden, IA; sisters Judy (Gary) Golden of Sioux City, IA, and Ginice (Gary) Sturges of Hermosa, SD; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and grandchildren who will all miss him sorely.
