Darrel "Swede" Wyatt Richardson

Darrel “Swede” Richardson, 83, of Lehigh, IA, passed away on Friday, December 18, 2020, at the Paula J. Baber Hospice Home in Fort Dodge.

Darrel Wyatt Richardson was born on November 19, 1937, in Lehigh, Iowa, the son of Lawrence and Muriel (Anderson) Richardson. He graduated with the Lehigh High School class of 1956.

Darrel was married to Beverly Schmidt on June 20, 1959. They were blessed with two sons, Michael and Mitchell.

On September 2, 2006, Darrel was united in marriage to Helen Rieck at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Barnum. The couple made their home in Lehigh.

Swede worked at Lehigh Sewer Pipe & Tile for 30 years and later at the Fort Dodge Laboratories until retiring in 1998. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed fishing and hunting. Darrel belonged to the Lehigh United Methodist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and two sons, Michael Richardson and Mitchell and his wife Patricia Richardson.

Survivors include his wife, Helen Richardson and her five children; five grandchildren, Tom Richardson, Dave Richardson, Heather (Thomas) Herzog, Owen Richardson, and Jennifer Richardson; three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Sue (Dean) Runyon of Lehigh, IA, and Pat (Dale) Conklin of Johnston, IA; daughter-in-law, June Richardson of Lehigh, IA; and several nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
