Darrell "Dean" Anderson, 69, of Pratt, Kansas, and formerly of Dayton, Iowa, passed away Monday, March 7, 2011, at Lakewood Senior Living in Pratt.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m., Friday, March 11, 2011, at Carson - Stapp Funeral Home in Ogden. Rev. Rod Meyer will officiate. Burial will be in the Pilot Mound Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., at Carson - Stapp Funeral Home in Ogden.
Darrell Dean Anderson was born on August 8, 1941, in Boone, Iowa the son of Clifford and Mabel (Johnson) Anderson. He graduated in 1959 from Grand Community High School in Boxholm. On February 2, 1964, Dean married Judy Anderson with whom he had four children. Dean started working part time during high school for the coop system at the Beaver Coop Elevator. Following his education, he worked full time for various coops in Iowa until 1973 when he was promoted to Assistant Manager and then to Branch Manager/Grain Merchandise for the Boone Coop in 1974. He worked as General Manager in Iowa, Colorado, Missouri, Oklahoma, and Kansas, from 1977 to 1998. On November 26, 1982, Dean was united in marriage to Karen Nelson at Emanuel Lutheran Church in Dayton. Prior to retirement, Dean worked as Interim Manager setting up mergers for coops in Northern Kansas and Southern Wisconsin, from 1998 to December of 2000. He retired in the community of St. John, Kansas, in December of 2000. After suffering a stroke in June of 2002, Dean has resided at the Lakewood Senior Living Center in Pratt, Kansas.
Survivors include his wife of 29 years, Karen Anderson of St. John, Kansas; one son, Gary Anderson of Oskaloosa, Iowa; three daughters, Cathy (Don) Nyren of Harcourt, Iowa, Sue (Richard) Travis of Dayton, Iowa, and Jody Anderson of Des Moines, Iowa; three step-children, Dan Nelson of Justin, Texas, Susan (Craig) Cooper of Dayton, Iowa, and Daren Nelson of Ottumwa, Iowa; nine grandchildren; two great grandchildren; one brother, Charles (Emily) Anderson of Story City, Iowa; a niece, Kay Anderson, and a nephew, Tom Anderson. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clifford and Mabel Anderson.
Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
