David T. Johnson, 79, of Dayton, Iowa, passed away on Saturday morning, November 4, 2023, at Grandview Health Care Center in Dayton.

David Theodore Johnson was born on October 15, 1944, in Fort Dodge, Iowa, the son of Arvid and Naomi (Olson) Johnson. He graduated with the Dayton High School class of 1963, and went on to complete one year of college.
Dave served his Country in the United States Army during Vietnam, and was stationed in Germany. He served from July of 1965, until his honorable discharge on July 6, 1967.
Dave was previously married to Connie Lee Hindman. They were blessed with two children, Kent and Laura.
Dave worked at Geo. A. Hormel & Co. in Fort Dodge, prior to farming the family ground in rural Webster County. In the early 1980’s he moved to Garden City, Kansas, where he was employed at IBP (Iowa Beef Processors) until retiring.
On March 19, 1999, he was united in marriage to Joan Schlief in Garden City, Kansas. They returned to Dayton in 2010.
Dave was a former member of the Peterson American Legion Post #323 in Dayton. He enjoyed restoring furniture and woodworking in his shop.
He was preceded in death by parents, and his grandson, Alexander Ryan “A.J.” Johnson.
Among the survivors are his wife of 24 years, Joan Johnson of Dayton, Iowa; son, Kent Johnson of Bettendorf, Iowa, and daughter, Laura (James Jr.) Kain of North Liberty, Iowa; grandchildren, Jakob and Nikolas Johnson, and Andrew, Lars, and Madelyn Kain; one brother, Alan (Karen) Johnson of Denver, Colorado, and one sister, Joan (Bruce) Bickner of Sycamore, Illinois; as well as several nieces, nephews, and their families. He is also survived by two adopted children, JeanAnn Newell and Steven Johnson.
Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
