Dean E. Ober, 87, of Dayton, Iowa, passed away on Monday, August 11, 2014, at the Boone County Hospital.
Dean's wishes were to be cremated. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, August 23, 2014, at the United Methodist Church in Dayton. Rev. Dr. Karen Young will officiate. Burial will be at McGuire Bend Cemetery, rural Dayton. Visitation will be Friday, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., at the United Methodist Church. Dean Edward Ober was born on March 26, 1927, in Dayton, Iowa, the son of Clyde and Blanche (Bass) Ober. He attended rural schools up to the eighth grade.
On December 9, 1951, Dean was united in marriage to Arlene Ray Lambertson. To this union four daughters were born: June, Cindy, Deb, and Laurie.
Dean worked at Lehigh Sewer Pipe & Tile for fifty years, retiring in 1993. Prior to that he worked at the mill in Fort Dodge.
Dean spent many hours fishing, playing card games, attending garage sales where he was always hunting for mowers to repair and resell. He enjoyed visiting friends and relatives. He never met a stranger.
Among the survivors are three daughters; Cindy Matthies of Boone, Laurie Richardson of Fraser, Deb Ober of Pecos, Texas, and eight grandchildren; Mindy (Josh) Yingst of Woodward, Ben (Elizabeth) Matthies of Boone, Jason Grove of Fort Dodge, Terry Richardson of Pella, Brad Schell of Dayton, Andi (Ryan) Jones of Slater, Dani (Dustin) Jackson of Ogden, Greg Matthies of Boone, and six great-grandchildren; Gabe Yingst, Maddux Grove, Gretta Yingst, Emmalynn Matthies, Halle Kramer, Thea Jones; brothers/sisters; Donna Ober of Humboldt, Laraine Corey of Whidbey Island, WA, Velma Woods of Livermore, David Hickle of Boone, Lenard (Joyce) Ober of Stratford, Esther (Willie) Santi of Rutledge, TN, Jerry (Leah) Ober of Stratford, Pam (Denny) Huen of Columbia, MO, and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Dean was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde and Blanche Ober, wife, Arlene Ober on March 26, 2000, daughter, June Ober, son-in-law Rich Matthies, great-grandson Zebedee Matthies, three brothers, Philip Ober, Milford Ober and Dale Ober, and three sisters, Louise Churchward, Charlotte Neal, Jane Hickle.
Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
