Dean Miller

Dean F. Miller, 96, of Ogden, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, December 13, 2017, at his home.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m., Monday, December 18, 2017, at Bethel Church, rural Boone. Burial will be at Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Military Graveside Rites will be conducted by the Boone Veteran's Council. Visitation will Sunday, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., at Carson – Stapp Funeral Home in Ogden. Dean Frew Miller was born on December 7, 1921, in Ogden, Iowa, the son of James and Margaret (Frew) Miller. He graduated with the Ogden High School class of 1940. Dean served his country in the United States Coast Guard during WWII, serving on the HMS Zinnia. He was honorably discharged in January of 1946.

On May 24, 1947, Dean was united in marriage to June J. Dodd of Boone. Their marriage was blessed with three children: Anne, James, and Lynn.

In his early years, Dean worked at the Ollie Peterson Garage in Boone and then at a Cannery in Grimes, Iowa. The couple moving to Mountain Home, Arkansas, in the late 1940's where Dean built a cabin and also sold firewood. After returning to the Ogden area, Dean and June farmed Southeast of Ogden and raised dairy cows, hogs, horses, sheep, and rabbits. He also worked at Kruck's Heating & Cooling, working in sheet metal, and in June of 1974 established Miller Plumbing & Heating in Ogden. During the summers Dean worked at Boone Golf & Country Club, Spring Lake Golf Course, and The Hill Golf Course where he also served as the course Superintendent.

Survivors include his children, Anne (Larry) Thomas of Ogden, Iowa, Jim Miller, of Boone, Iowa, and Lynn Lindsey of Georgia; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.

His parents, wife, June in 2016, granddaughter, Olivia (Miller) Bennett, and his sister, JoAnn King preceded him in death.
