Deborah Marcus Butler 7/19/1953- 5/14/2010
Deborah was born in Kansas City, Missouri to mother Martha Loomis and father Sam Marcus both deceased. Deborah is survived by her half sister Martha Butcher of Chicago Illinois. Her Husband Ormonde M. Butler, her son Elliott M. Butler of Gowrie, Iowa and her son Ian O. Butler of Santa Barbara, California. Her son Ian and his betrothed, Angelica are expecting twins this September.
Deborah was a precocious child and an excellent student who received a full scholarship to the University of Missouri. She chose to leave college, to seek adventure in Southern California. She returned to school at the age of twenty six, majoring in art and accounting. She meet her future husband their in a photography class he was teaching. Deborah and Ormonde were Married November 20, 1982.
Deborah went into the career of accounting in the late eighty's. She and her husband owned several homes in Southern California while raising their two boys. Deborah retired form Accounting in 2004 due to health difficulties. She pursued her hobby of dog breeding, exhibiting and lure coursing with great dedication. Her dog breed of choice was the "Borzoi" (Russian Wolfhound) The dogs she competed won many prestigious titles and many of the dogs from her breeding program are competing and winning titles today. She also had one Afghan hound she loved dearly named "Sable."
Deborah and her husband relocated to Gowrie, Iowa in 2006 to accommodate a larger, dog breeding program.
Deborah was a very industries person and a talented crafts-person. She was exceptional in sewing, crocheting and leather work. She made many beautiful items for the dog fancier and dog competitor, including collars, leashes, racing jackets, warm coats and even dog jewelry. She was a talented poet as well and won many poetry contests and not surprisingly, many of the poems were about dogs. When she was able Deborah was a great math tutor for her sons also but in the later years this became very
difficult for her.
Deborah had to cope with a variety of serous health challenges through out her life. In recent years cancer being the most major. She was diagnosed with metastasized, breast to bone cancer in September 2009. She will be deeply missed by all who loved her.
