Donald D. Grow, 77, of Dayton, Iowa, passed away Friday, June 28, 2019, at VA Central Iowa Health Care System in Des Moines.
Visitation will be Tuesday, July 2, 2019, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., at Carson – Stapp Funeral Home in Dayton. Following visitation Don will be cremated. Graveside services will be held 2:00 p.m., Saturday, July 6, 2019, at the Dayton Cemetery. Military Graveside Rites will be conducted by Peterson American Legion Post #323.
Donald Dean Grow was born on December 13, 1941, in Marathon, Iowa, the son of Virgil and Inez (Sassman) Grow. He graduated from Marathon High School in 1960. Following his education, Don enlisted in the United States Air Force where he served as an airplane mechanic during Vietnam.
On May 1, 1970, Don was united in marriage to Wilma Corrine McCoid in Minnesota. Following their marriage, the couple established their home in Dayton. In his earlier years, Don worked at Lehigh Sewer Pipe & Tile. He later owned & operated Dayton Saw Sharpening and in retirement drove school bus.
Don belonged to the Dayton United Methodist Church, Dayton Lion’s Club and the Peterson American Legion Post #323 where he was a past commander. He also was a Boy Scout Leader for several years.
Don is survived by a brother, Arny (Melanie) Grow of Marathon, IA; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Wilma; parents, a brother, Verlin Grow, and his sister, Bernadine (Stoneburner) Peterson.
Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
