Donald "Joe" Potter

Donald Russell "Joe" Potter, 73, of Otho, Iowa, passed away on August 18, 2016 at the Veteran's Hospital Hospice in Des Moines, Iowa, after a short illness.

Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, August 20, 2016, at Carson-Stapp Funeral Home in Dayton, Iowa. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until the time of services. Joe was born in Fort Dodge, Iowa on August 7, 1943, to George and Leota (Young) Potter. He attended Fort Dodge Senior High until enlisting in the Air Force in 1964. He was stationed at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base until his honorable discharge in 1968, and then made his home in Lehigh, Iowa.

Joe worked as a Distribution Manager for Liquid Carbonic until his retirement in 1995. He was also a skilled mechanic, having owned a Texaco station in Fort Dodge, Iowa, and working alongside his brother at Potter Automotive Center. He enjoyed golfing, bowling, fishing, shooting pool, gardening and cheering on Tony Stewart and the Iowa State Cyclones.

Joe is survived by his loving wife, Dixie; children Dawn (David) Rodarte (daughter of Sharon O'Hearn Hrubes), Jonathan "Jack" Buchan and Lori (Bert) Pond (children of Sally Warneke Buchan) and stepson, Lowell Dencklau; grandchildren Grace and Abby Lillebo, Chris and Cheyanne Buchan, and Shanna and Chad Pond and great grandchild Austyn Fischer, and other family and friends.

Joe is preceded in death by parents, George and Leota Potter; brother, Bob Potter; and sister, Bonnie (Potter) Kinseth.

Memorial donations may be directed to VA Hospice or VA Main Hospital at VA, 3600 30th St., Des Moines, Iowa 50310, Attn: Volunteer Services.
