Donald L. Bakley, 81, of Ogden, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, May 1, 2010, at the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m., Saturday, May 8, 2010, at the Community United Methodist Church in Ogden. Rev. Paul Evans will officiate. Burial will be at Glenwood Cemetery in Ogden. Visitation will be Friday, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., at Carson - Stapp Funeral Home in Ogden.

Donald Lee Bakley was born on November 8, 1928, in Ogden, Iowa, the son of Herbert and Esther (Johnson) Bakley. He graduated with the Boxholm Consolidated High School class of 1946. Don was united in marriage to Shirley Danielson on October 9, 1948, at Zion Lutheran Church in Gowrie. The couple farmed southwest of Boxholm for many years. In 2001, Don and Shirley moved into Ogden.

Don belonged to the Community United Methodist Church in Ogden. In his younger years he enjoyed trapping, hunting, and fishing. Don also enjoyed woodworking, making furniture for the home, and sharing his talent and passion for it by making gifts for family members and friends. He was an avid sports fan and followed both Iowa Hawkeye and Iowa State Cyclone athletics. Don was active in the Iowa Lilly Association and took great pride in the lillies he would grow in his garden.

Survivors include his wife, Shirley Bakley of Ogden, Iowa; two sons, Tom Bakley of Larkspur, Colorado, and Larry Bakley Potomac, Maryland; one daughter, Nancy (Jeroen) Janssen of Borrby, Sweden; four grandchildren, Zac, Bryan, Cody, and Beau Bakley; two brothers, Bob (Ardis) Bakley of Ogden, Iowa, and Bill (Margaret) Bakley of Ames, Iowa; and one sister, Pat (George) O'Mary of Sierra Madre, California. He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Karen Nelson; and his grandson, Travis Bakley.

Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
