Donald R. Kling

Donald R. Kling, 92, of Friendship Haven in Fort Dodge, Iowa, died Wednesday, January 14, 2009, at Trinity Regional Medical Center in Fort Dodge.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m., Monday, January 19, 2009, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Burnside. Rev. Julian Swanson will officiate. Burial will be in the Dayton Cemetery with Military Graveside Rites conducted by the Peterson American Legion Post #323. Visitation will be Sunday, from 5:00 to 7:30 p.m., at Carson - Stapp Funeral Home in Dayton.

Donald Ralph Kling was born on his parent's farm by Palm Grove, Iowa, on December 22, 1916, the son of Otto and Annie (Swanson) Kling. He was baptized at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Burnside. Donald graduated from Burnside High School in 1936 and worked on his parent's farm. He served in the United States Army as a Tech Sergeant in British Guinea and Trinidad from 1942 to 1945. Following his honorable discharge from the Army, he continued farming with his father, brother and sister until retirement.

Donald served as a director on the Palm Grove Elevator Board. He also served on the Immanuel Lutheran Church Council. Don was a member of the Svenska Klubben. Donald enjoyed farming, raising animals and gardening. He enjoyed listening to and watching the Chicago White Sox. He liked to travel to visit relatives and friends in Chicago and Florida. Don also enjoyed playing barnyard softball and horseshoes with his nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews.

Donald is survived by his sister and brother, Ruth Kling and David Kling of Fort Dodge, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents, Otto and Annie; brothers and sisters, Robert Kling, Helga Olson, Inez Challstrom, and Harold Kling.
