Donna Saunders

Donna Saunders, 81, of Ogden, IA, passed away unexpectedly on August 30, 2017 at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines, IA.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, September 5, 2017, at the Community United Methodist Church in Ogden. Pastor Evelyn Lewiston will officiate. Burial will be at Quincy Cemetery, rural Boone. Visitation will be Tuesday, from 9:00 a.m., until the time of the service at the church. She was born Donna Katherine Alexander on July 23, 1936, to Don and Bessie Alexander in Corydon, IA. She graduated from Boone High School. On June 6, 1954 Donna was united in marriage to Joseph Harley Saunders at the Battin Chapel.

Donna was a homemaker and partner in their farming operation. She was a very devoted daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Donna enjoyed spending time with her family and friends who she kept very close. She had a passion for sewing and quilting, avid interest in genealogy, and family history. What she most enjoyed was hosting and cooking for large family gatherings at her home throughout the years. Donna was very willing to help anyone in need and was a member of the Community United Methodist Church.

Donna is preceded in death by her father Don and mother Bessie Alexander as well as her father-in-law, Joseph and mother-in-law, Florence Saunders. One brother, Ivan Alexander, four sisters-in-law, Genevieve Petrie, Marjorie Christensen, Kathryn Dennis, Nila Clemens, numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Donna is survived by her husband, Harley Saunders; three sons, Randy & (Tina) Saunders of Ogden, IA; Neil Saunders of Ogden, IA; Grant Saunders of Ogden, IA, two daughters, Brenda Fisher of Ogden, IA, and Teresa (Craig) Davenport of Ogden, IA; grandchildren; Christopher & Amelia Saunders of Boone, IA; Andrea and Josh Clauson of Boone, IA; Lindsay and Dan Cox of Gilbert, IA; Joe Saunders of Boone, IA; Jake Saunders of Ogden, IA; Blake and Alyssa Saunders of West Des Moines, IA; Ben & Jessi Fisher of Ogden, IA; Jessica Fisher and Matt Jackson of Kansas City, MO; Kit and Andrew Vortherms of Fonda, IA; Nikki and Jay Burkenbine of Grimes, IA; great-grandchildren Riley, Meira, Nick, Andresa, Delilah, Austin, Daisha, Phoebe, Olivia, Alex, Jakobi, Henry, Brielle, Braxton, Elyse, Luke, Presley, Ella, Aubree, son-coming Thanksgiving 2017; sister-in-law, Chris Alexander of Boone, IA; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
