Doris Esther Merriam

Doris Merriam, 92, of Ogden, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, October 30, 2018, at Westhaven Community in Boone.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, November 3, 2018, at the Community United Methodist Church in Ogden. Rev. Evelyn Lewiston will officiate. Burial will be at Renner Cemetery, near Boxholm. Visitation will be Friday, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., at Carson-Stapp Funeral Home in Ogden.

Doris Esther Wiener was born on March 27, 1926, on a farm near Boxholm, Iowa, the daughter of Orace and Esther (Tourte) Wiener. She received her education in the Boxholm area graduating from Boxholm Consolidated High School. On October 19, 1947, Doris was united in marriage to Robert E. Merriam at the E.U.B. Church in Boxholm. To this union three daughters were born: Kathleen, Cynthia, and Judith. The couple lived and farmed near Boxholm for many years, retiring from farming in 1985 at which time they moved to Ogden. In June of 2014, she became a resident of Westhaven Community.


Doris belonged to the Community United Methodist Church in Ogden where she was active in U.M.W. Her memberships also included O.D.O. Club where she served for nearly 70 years, and Alpha Study Club of Boxholm. Doris loved to garden and fish.


Survivors include two daughters, Cindy (Don) Lellig of Jesup, Iowa, Judy (Charlie) Swanson of Dayton, Iowa; son-in-law, Lee Walker of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; five grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, three step grandchildren, five step great grandchildren; and her sister, Belva (Keith) Vest of Boone, Iowa.


In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Robert E. Merriam, her daughter, Kathy Walker, and her sister, Vida Leathers.
