Dorothy "Irene" Hoshaw

Dorothy Irene Hoshaw moved to her heavenly home on Wednesday, June 23, 2021 at Hearthstone in Boone, IA. Irene, formerly of Stratford and Webster City, was surrounded by her family.

A Funeral service for Irene will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Monday June 28, 2021 at Calvary United Methodist Church in Stratford, Iowa. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Stratford. Visitation will be held from 2-5 P.M. on Sunday, June 27, 2021 at Calvary United Methodist Church in Stratford.

Irene was born on May 23, 1935 in Fraser, Iowa to Jess and Dora (Bass) Osborn. She was raised in the country northwest of Stratford. She attended country school through the grade school years across the field from their home. She then attended Stratford Community High School, graduating in 1953.

During her high school years, she met a handsome young man at the Stratford movie theater. On November 28, 1953 she married this man, James Roger Hoshaw at the Methodist Parsonage in Stratford. This marriage was blessed with three children Shelley, Kevin and Darle. Irene and Roger lived in Stratford for 79 years before moving to Windsor Manor in Webster City in September of 2015. After Roger’s passing on July 16, 2017, Irene moved to the Hearthstone Memory Care Unit of the Eastern Star Home. Irene was lovingly cared for by the finest staff that became family.

Irene was first and foremost, a wife and mother. She lovingly cared for Roger and for her children. When the children all went to school, Irene then worked for several businesses in Stratford including Carol’s Café, Stratford Distributing, Leed’s Grocery Store, and Stratford Telephone Company. She then worked for CDS in Boone until her retirement. Following her retirement, she found her most favorite job as a preschool aide at Stratford Elementary School. She loved being “Grandma Irene” to these children as well as her own grandchildren. Irene and Roger attended McGuire Bend Church over 50 years and cherished their church family. Irene was active in many roles at the church including Sunday school teacher and treasurer, Ladies Aid member, and VBS teacher and director.

Irene is survived by her children Shelley (Dave) Marvin of Boone, Iowa; Kevin (Julie) Hoshaw of Stratford, Iowa and Darle (Nancy) Hoshaw of Forest City, Iowa. Grandchildren Becky Marvin of LeMars, Iowa; Brad Marvin of Mesa, Arizona; Lindsey Fausch (Josh) of Polk City, Iowa; Tyler Hoshaw of Forest City, Iowa; Randi Sue Welch and Riley Welch of Webster City, Iowa; and Brian (Tricia) Paris of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; and nine great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Her parents, and sister, Dolores Bergman preceded her in death.
