Dorothy E. Kieffer, 79, of Ogden, Iowa, died Sunday, March 30, 2014, at Westhaven Community in Boone of complications from Parkinson's disease.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, April 2, 2014, at St. John's Catholic Church in Ogden. Father James Bruch will officiate. Burial will be in St. John's Catholic Cemetery in Ogden. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., with a Vigil Service at 7:00 p.m., all at St. John's Catholic Church. Dorothy Elizabeth Heman was born on June 19, 1934, in Carroll, Iowa, the daughter of John and Mary (Bengfort) Heman. Dorothy graduated from Carroll High School and later from Iowa State Teachers College. After graduation Dorothy was an elementary teacher in Odebolt.
On September 15, 1956, Dorothy was united in marriage to Tom Kieffer at St. Joseph's Church in Dedham, Iowa. The couple lived in Ogden for more than fifty years. Dorothy was a substitute teacher in the Ogden Schools for many years. She was also a partner in the Kieffer Manufacturing Company.
Dorothy was a member of St. John's Catholic Church, St. John's Altar and Rosary Society, the Carroll High School Alumni Association and UNI Alumni Association.
Dorothy is survived by her husband and best friend of 58 years Tom Kieffer of Ogden, Iowa; seven children, Mary Jo (Tom) Hromatka of Urbandale, Iowa, Bob (Lisa) Kieffer of Ogden, Iowa, Jim (Linda) Kieffer of Spencer, Iowa, Bill Kieffer of Marshalltown, T.J. Kieffer of Urbandale, Iowa, Steve (Traci) Kieffer of Ogden, Iowa, Don (Alison) Kieffer of Eagle, Idaho; fifteen grandchildren and four great grandchildren; sister Anne (Glen) Salzbrenner of Lakewood, Ohio. She was preceded in death by her parents, and one brother, Ralph.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be left to a charity of your choice.
