Dorothy Swanson, 88, of Dayton, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, May 1, 2012, at Grandview Health Care Center in Dayton.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m., Friday, May 4, 2012, at the United Methodist Church in Dayton. Rev. Keith Putney will officiate. Burial will be in the Dayton Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., at Carson - Stapp Funeral Home in Dayton.

Dorothy Darlene Swanson was born on March 28, 1924, in Stratford, Iowa, the daughter of Lester and Flossie (Gleason) Richey. She was a graduate of Stratford High School. On June 11, 1943, Dorothy was united in marriage to Raymond Calvin Swanson in Colorado. The couple lived briefly in Colorado and Washington before returning to the Boone and Stratford area. In 1953, they moved to an acreage near Dayton where Raymond farmed and owned & operated a trucking business for many years. Raymond passed away on September 8, 1998. In November of 2007, Dorothy moved to Grandview Health Care Center in Dayton.

Dorothy belonged to the United Methodist Church in Dayton where she was active in many Church activities. She also enjoyed quilting, sewing, arts & crafts, and belonged to the Dayton Exercisers.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Raymond Swanson, a daughter, Rochelle McIntyre, one sister, Bernice Tell, and one brother, Sheldon Richey.

Among the survivors are her son, Harlan (Loretta) Swanson of Dayton, Iowa; five grandchildren, Kevin Kinsey, Kimberly (John) King, Bradley (Stephanie) Swanson, Shelley (Darroll) Parker, and Laurie (Ben) Strandberg; eleven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Maxine Nelson of Eagle Grove, Iowa, and Janice (Donnie) Ford of Dayton, Iowa; one brother Lyle (Betty) Richey of Stratford, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews.
