Doug Runyan, 69, of Ogden, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, July 8, 2015, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 14, 2015, at the Community United Methodist Church in Ogden. Rev. Gary Hoyt will officiate. Burial will be at Mineral Ridge Cemetery in Ridgeport with Military Graveside Rites will be conducted by the Boone Veteran's Council. Douglas Lee Runyan was born on August 5, 1945, in Boone, Iowa, the son of Roger and Lavonne (Fyock) Runyan He lived in Fraser, Iowa, most of his life. Graduating from Boxholm High School in 1963.
Doug was enlisted into the United States Navy during Vietnam. He served from 1965 to 1969 and was honorably discharged in September of 1969. He served 2 tours in Vietnam in the Seabees. After leaving the military, Doug was united in marriage to Mary Ann Pendry on May 3, 1970. Doug worked for Rolfes in Boone until the early 1970's; he later worked for Archway Cookie Company until it closed. Doug returned to school and got his CDL to drive truck for Oberg Trucking in Fort Dodge. He later worked for Fareway as a truck driver until he was no longer able to work due to his health.
Doug loved to go fishing and hunting, though he had not been able to due much in recent years due to his declining health. He also loved to watch movies, cook anything on his grill, and spend time with his family and friends. He was an all around nice guy that was always there for his family and friends, and had the biggest smile to share with anyone he met.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Ann Runyan of Grand Junction, IA; He is also survived by his five children, Christine (Dave) Hunt of St. Charles, MO, Catherine (Guy) Hay of Boone, IA, Laurie (Gary) Kathman of Boone, IA, Randy (Maggie) Runyan of Grand Junction, IA, and Becky Mayse (Sean Anderson) of Boone, IA; grandchildren, John Mayse, Bronson (Amy) Mayse, Matthew, Sean, and Brett Williams, Ryan Runyan and fiancé Stephanie Vampola, Logan Runyan and fiancé KJ Johnson, Kyle (Molly) Cmelik, Wyatt, and Natosha Higgins (Ryan Blair), Sonia Cmelik, Alicia Runyan, Sarah Armstrong, Sarah, Braedon and Jake Hay; four greatgrandchildren, Trinity, Noah, Luke and Ely; sister, Barbara Mickelson of Rochester, MN; niece and nephews, Brian Mickelson of Rochester, MN, Dale Mickelson and family from Northern, MN, Kim (Tim) Postier and family, and Lynn (Tim) Gorski and family of Lakeville, MN. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Mary Brown and three infant sisters.
Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
