Dwight M. Kinsey, 82, of Dayton, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, May 8, 2012, at the Paula J. Baber Hospice Home in Fort Dodge.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m., Saturday, May 12, 2012, at the United Methodist Church in Dayton. Rev. Gayle Sandholm and Rev. Keith Putney will officiate. Burial will be at the Dayton Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., at Carson - Stapp Funeral Home in Dayton.
Dwight Marvin Kinsey was born on March 22, 1930, in Miller South Dakota, the son of Walter and Gertie (Waters) Kinsey. He attended schools in Ramona, South Dakota.
On July 21, 1950, Dwight was united in marriage to Phyllis Sandholm at the United Methodist Church in Dayton.
Dwight was a prominent Dayton businessman and in his earlier years owned the Standard Oil Company Service Station and the D-X Tank Wagon Farm Service in Dayton. The couple later made their home in Boulder, Colorado, where Dwight operated a used car business for 12 years before returning to Dayton where he owned & operated Kinsey Ford, Inc., and Kinsey Used Cars, retiring in 2005.
Dwight was a member of the United Methodist Church in Dayton and had served on the Church Board. He was an active supporter of the Dayton Community and served in many capacities on the Dayton Community Club, Dayton Golf & Country Club, and the Dayton Rodeo & Celebration Committee, serving as Parade Marshall in 2003. Dwight was named the Dayton Citizen of the Year in 2007.
Among the survivors are his wife of 61 years, Phyllis Kinsey of Dayton, Iowa; one daughter, Linda (Robert) Moody of Denver, Colorado; two sons, Larry (Jill) Kinsey of Orlando, Florida, and Lance (Stacey) Kinsey of Johnston, Iowa; six grandchildren, Bobby (Betsy) Moody, Courtney Moody, Katharine Kinsey, Austin Kinsey, Leslie Kinsey, and Kylie Kinsey; and one great granddaughter, Morgan Moody. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Lee Kinsey; five sisters; and four brothers.
Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
