Elaine Ione Chiles, 81, of Boone, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, January 12, 2012, at Westhaven Community in Boone.
Elaine's wishes were to be cremated. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, January 17, 2012; at 2:00p.m., at the Westhaven Chapel in Boone. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from noon until the time of the service. Burial will be in the Renner Cemetery rural Boxholm. Carson - Stapp Funeral Home in Ogden is in charge of arrangements.
Elaine Ione Shafer was born on October 19, 1930, in Boone, Iowa, the daughter of Ray and Mildred (Tonkinson) Shafer. She married John Tiffany on October 23, 1948. To this union were born three daughters, Marcy, Susan, and Tamara Jeanne. On February 18, 1969, Elaine was united in marriage to John "Sam" Chiles. The couple had lived in Boone, Oregon, Texas, and later made their home in Ogden. In November of 2006, Sam and Elaine moved to the Cedars in Madrid. Sam passed away on June 27, 2009. Elaine moved to Westhaven Community in Boone in October of 2010.
Elaine was a member of the Pilot Mound Methodist Church, she enjoyed playing cards, reading and visiting with her friends.
Among the survivors are three daughters; Marcy (Ken) Carter of Florence, Oregon, Sue (Dick) Anderson of Ogden, IA; Tamara Jeanne and her companion Randy Parks of Silvis, ILL; five step-daughters, Lucretia (Mike) Frazier, Debby (Bob) Burgess, LaDonna (Mark) Savonell, Diana (Rodney) Bennett, and Tammy Sue (Jim) Anderson; six grandchildren, Ryan (Stacey) Anderson, Nikki (Jon) Brelsford, Missy Carter, Carrie Carter, Jeff (Courtney) Oswald and Jennifer (Jeff) Troutwine; seven great-grandchildren, and several step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren; one brother Don (Eunice) Shafer of Indiana; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband John "Sam" Chiles in 2009, and one sister, Frona Toyne.
Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
