Emory Hanson

February 12, 1923 — July 17, 2012

Emory E. Hanson, 89, of Dayton, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, July 17, 2012, at his home.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m., Friday, July 20, 2012, at Emanuel Lutheran Church in Dayton. Pastor Arhiana Shek will officiate. Burial will be in the Dayton Cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be Thursday, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., at Carson - Stapp Funeral Home in Dayton.

Emory Earl Hanson was born on February 12, 1923, on the family farm south of Dayton, Iowa, the son of Christian and Mae (Nelson) Hanson. He graduated with the Dayton High School class of 1941. Emory served in the United States Navy from 1944-1946, serving in the Philippines during WWII. Emory married Imogene Peterson on October 4, 1947, at Faith Lutheran Church in Harcourt. The couple farmed south of Dayton for many years until moving into town in 1985.

Emory was a life long member of Emanuel Lutheran Church where he served on the church board and sang in the choir. He also served on the Elevator Board, Dayton Rodeo Celebration Committee, and three years on the Webster County Extension Council. He was a 4-H leader, served on the ASCS Committee, and was a 66 year member of the Peterson American Legion Post #323 where he served on the Honor Guard.

Emory worked with the Dayton Rodeo in many capacities over the years building fences and shoots and later taking care of the livestock. Emory attended every rodeo with the exception of while in the Navy.

Survivors include his wife Imogene of Dayton; four children, Earl (Georgene) Hanson of Dayton, Iowa, Kathy (Roger) Taylor of Fort Dodge, Iowa, Karen (Doug) Hahn of Cedar Falls, Iowa, and Marlan (Deb) Hanson of Harcourt, Iowa; 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; one sister, Loretta Hansen of Carroll, Iowa; and two sisters-in-law, Hazel Hanson and Maurine Hanson both of Fort Dodge, Iowa. He is preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Russell, Melvin and Paul Hanson; and one sister, Viola Hanson.

Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
