Ethel F. Phipps, 95, of the Fort Dodge Villa Care and formerly of Harcourt, died Monday, November 23, 2009, at the Villa Care Center in Fort Dodge with family present.
Graveside services will be held 10:00 a.m., Saturday, November 28, 2009, at Mineral Ridge Cemetery in Ridgeport. Pastor Richard Laird will officiate. Visitation will be Friday, November 27, 2009, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., at Carson - Stapp Funeral Home in Dayton.
Ethel Frances Phipps was born on March 29, 1914, in Ogden, Iowa, the daughter of Harry and Dorothea (Filmer) Brixey. She attended schools in Ogden. Ethel was united in marriage to William Phipps on May 22, 1930. The couple lived in Frasier before moving to Harcourt in 1942. Ethel worked as a telephone operator in Harcourt for several years. William passed away on June 8, 1979. In 1990, Ethel moved to Webster City, where she remained until becoming a resident of the Fort Dodge Villa Care Center in February of 2003.
Ethel enjoyed crocheting.
She is survived by her daughter, Inez Hanus of Duncombe, Iowa; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, William Phipps; a daughter, Dolores Phipps; two brothers, Harry Brixey and Roy Brixey; two sisters, Carrie Hedblom and Leona Pearson; and two grandsons, Mike Vladeff and John Fortune.
