Gary W. Wallace, 76, of Ogden, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, March 6, 2019 at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames.
A celebration of life gathering will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 9, 2019 at the Leonard Good Community Center in Ogden. Lunch will be served during this time. Following the celebration of life gathering, military rites will be accorded by the Boone Veterans Council. Carson – Stapp Funeral Home in Ogden is caring for Gary and his family.
Gary Wilson Wallace was born on September 3, 1942, in Winterset, Iowa the son of Harold and Leah (Baker) Wallace. Gary attended country school and also received his education in Creston, Iowa and Seward, Nebraska. Following his education, Gary served his country in the United States Marine Corp. during the Vietnam War. On August 29, 1965, he was united in marriage to Judith Hackert at the Free Methodist Church in Cedar Rapids. Gary worked for Skelgas for over 22 years in both Marion and Indianola, later becoming manager of the location in Oskaloosa. In 1992, the family moved to Ogden where he was employed for Price Construction and later for the City of Ogden as Street Superintendent until his retirement in 2006. After retiring, Gary went back to work for Don Williams Campground and then for Pete Bergstrom until 2017. Gary was a member of the Marine Corps. League in Boone. Gary and his wife, Judy, spent many winters vacationing in Hot Springs, Arkansas. He enjoyed woodworking, restoring vehicles, camping, and most of all, spending time with his friends and family.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Judy Wallace of Ogden, IA; two daughters, Melissa Turnis of Johnston, Darci (Kevin) Brown of Oskaloosa; four grandchildren, Ashley Danels, Maddie Turnis, Nicole (Jesse) Pitts, and Kyle Brown; a great-granddaughter that is due in May of this year, Jocelyn Rae Pitts; his mother, Leah Wallace of Boone; brother, Craig (Ann) Wallace of Ogden; sister, Debbie Wallace of Boone; brother-in-law, Stan Hackert of Marion; sister-in-law, Rosanne (Paul) Congdon also of Marion; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Gary was preceded in death by his father, Harold Wallace.
