Gaylord J. Carlson

Gaylord J. Carlson, 81, of Dayton, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 25, 2020.

Gaylord James Carlson was born on November 15, 1939, in Palm Grove, Iowa, the son of Darrell and Ruth (Long) Carlson. He attended Dayton Schools.

Gaylord was a lifelong mechanic and owned & operated Carlson Auto Service in Dayton for many years.

Gaylord enjoyed flying airplanes and had even rebuilt the engine of his Cessna 120
taildragger. He had his pilot’s license for 37 years. Gaylord also loved his ham radio gear collection.

In addition to his parents, Gaylord was preceded in death by his daughter, Valerie Mortenson, and his sister, Barbara Jean Carlson.

Survivors include his children, Natalie (Ron) Meeker, Scott Carlson (Luann), Mark Carlson, Sandi (Dan) Doyle, Susan (Dan) Reider, and Toni Swan; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; his brother, Steve (Jan) Carlson; and nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
