Gene Algoe, 72, of Pilot Mound, Iowa, passed away Friday, November 2, 2012, at his home surrounded by family.
Gene's wishes were to be cremated. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, November 8, 2012, at the United Methodist Church in Pilot Mound. Rev. Dennis Shepherd will officiate. Visitation will be Wednesday, from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m., at the Church in Pilot Mound. Carson - Stapp Funeral Home in Ogden is serving the family.
Gene Robert Algoe was born on December 2, 1939, in Carroll, Iowa, the son of James and Marion (McClue) Algoe. He graduated with the Lake City High School class of 1958. Following his education, Gene served his Country in the United States Marine Corps for four years.
On March 23, 1968, Gene was united in marriage to Denver Gruelke in Minnesota. The couple lived in Jefferson and Ralston, Iowa, before establishing their home in Pilot Mound in the early 1970's. Gene was employed by Hallett's Construction Company in Boone, and later worked as a mechanic for Boone County until retiring in 2002.
Gene enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, working on cars, and was an avid NASCAR Racing fan.
Among the survivors are his wife, Denver Algoe; daughter, Julie (Bill) Hinman;
son, Jim Algoe; and three grandsons, Cory, Tyler, and Jacob Hinman all of Pilot Mound, Iowa; his sister, Dolly Algoe of Springfield, Missouri; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
