Gene A. Knopf, 88, of Dayton, Iowa, passed away on Friday morning, April 22, 2022, at Grandview Health Care Center in Dayton.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, April 26, 2022, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Dayton. Rev. Michael Standfest will officiate. Burial will follow in the Dayton Cemetery, with Military Graveside Rites conducted by the Peterson American Legion Post #323. Gene Arthur Knopf was born on September 6, 1933, in Hardy, Iowa, the son of Paul and Thelma (Hewitt) Knopf. He was a graduate of the Burnside High School class of 1951. Gene served his Country in the United States Army during the Korean War from May of 1953 until his honorable discharge in May of 1955.
On June 2, 1956, Gene was united in marriage to Mary Ann Skoog at Emanuel Lutheran Church in Dayton. They were blessed with three children, Barbara, Kevin, and Kent.
Gene worked at Geo. A. Hormel in Fort Dodge for 33 years while farming and raising livestock.
Gene belonged to Trinity Lutheran Church in Dayton where he had served as the Church Treasurer. He also served on the Geo. A. Hormel Union Board. Gene was an avid reader and enjoyed playing cards with family & friends.
Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Mary Knopf of Dayton, IA; daughter, Barbara (Tim) Kenyon of Creston, IA; two sons, Kevin (Yvonne McIntire) Knopf of Arlington, VA, and Kent (Danelle) Knopf of Granger, IA; five grandchildren, Alex (Lindsay) Kenyon, Elizabeth (Steven) Lee, Joshua Knopf, Jacob (Emma) Knopf, and Bailey Knopf; three great-grandchildren, Kenneth Lee, Margaret Lee, and Maren Kenyon; siblings, Phyllis (Gus) Linn, Shirley Petersen, Sharon (Tom) Fortune, Gary Knopf, Sandy (Doug) Jobe, Linda (Charles) Lundquist, and Richard (Mary) Knopf; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
