George Wayne Tell

George Wayne Tell, 88, of Dayton, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, June 14, 2012, at the Paula J. Baber Hospice Home in Fort Dodge.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 19, 2012, at the United Methodist Church in Dayton. Rev. Keith Putney will officiate. Burial will be in the Dayton Cemetery. Military Graveside Rites will be conducted by the Peterson American Legion Post #323. Visitation will be at the Dayton United Methodist Church on Monday, June 18, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., with a Masonic Service at 7:00 p.m. conducted by the Acacia Lodge #176. Carson - Stapp Funeral Home in Dayton is in charge of the arrangements.
George Wayne Tell was born at home, on a farm near Dayton, November 11th, 1923, even though they celebrated his birthday most of his life on November 9th. He graduated from Dayton Consolidated Schools in 1942. He later joined the Army and served in World War II in Europe.
He returned to Dayton on Thanksgiving Day in 1945. He was joined in marriage to Marilyn Jean (Richardson) Tell on August 13th, 1948 at Grace Methodist Church in Dayton. They were blessed with four children: Holly, Kristen, Stuart, and Russell.
Wayne was the owner and operator of Tell Well Company of Dayton for many years. He was an entrepreneur who started or partnered in many different businesses in Dayton, Webster City, Boone, Fort Dodge, Newton and other Central Iowa communities. After Wayne retired, he was recruited by the Iowa Department of Public Health to travel the state and help private water well users understand their drinking water quality.
He enjoyed sharing his life with his wife Marilyn and their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He cared greatly for the community and the citizens alike and worked to support and promote Dayton and the many organizations within the community. Wayne's consideration, care, generosity and hard work touched many lives.
Wayne served on many boards of directors and was active in many community organizations including: United Methodist Church, First American Bank, the Dayton Rodeo Celebration Committee, Peterson American Legion Post #323, Acacia Lodge #176, Dayton School Board, and the Dayton Town Council to name only a few.
In his free time, Wayne liked to tend to large gardens, plant and nurture fruit and hardwood trees, and work on many different projects in his shop. The Avenue of Flags at the Dayton Cemetery was one of his many projects.
He was preceded in death by his parents Frank W. and Elsie (Waters) Tell; his sister Verna (Tell) Larson; brothers, Gerald, Robert and Keith Tell.
Wayne is survived by his numerous family members including his loving and caring wife of 63 years Marilyn (Richardson) Tell. His children: Holly (Pastor Warren) Egebo of Green Bay, Wisconsin, Kristen Tell of Clive, Stuart (Terri Knutson) Tell of Mason City, and Russell (Marsha Peterson) Tell of Ankeny.
His grandchildren: Melanie (Egebo) and Tony Gallina of Albertis, Pennsylvania; Brett Egebo, Chicago; Derreck Tell, Jarrod Tell and Jilann Tell of Mason City; Rachel (Tell) and Joel Sasek of Ames; Cathryn Tell of Ames; Breanne (Tell) and Jordan Dingbaum of Oshkosh, Wisconsin; his great grandchildren Annamaria and Alessandra Gallina of Albertis, Pennsylvania; and the mother of three of his grandchildren, Carol (O'Hearn) Tell and Hans Madsen of Dayton.
His brother Richard (Erma) Tell. Sisters: Adeline (Tell) Eslick and Marge (Tell) Iles all of Dayton, and Brother-in-law Ray Norine of Gowrie.
